Motorola took that approach with its first Moto G smartphone and the company is again taking on developing markets with the next generation of the low-cost handset, unveiled on Friday.
The New Motorola Moto G Is Bigger and Better, Still a Cheap Date:
Though the upgrades are mostly incremental, the new Moto G — like its predecessor — manages to pack a set of solid specs into an affordable package.
Weighing in at 5.3 ounces, the newest Moto G is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, though the accompanying hardware improvements justify the small increase. The 5-inch display — a half-inch bigger than the previous model — has the same 720p HD screen and the handset is powered by the same (though still impressive, given the price) quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The cameras have also gotten a much-needed upgrade with an 8-megapixel rear-facing imager and 2MP front camera (previously 5MP and 1.3MP, respectively). Motorola also added a physical shutter button, via the device's volume up button.
The new Moto G comes in 8GB and 16GB single- and dual-SIM varieties — a feature particularly alluring in developing markets (dual SIM allows users to use two different phone numbers simultaneously). And, unlike the first generation, the latest model supports additional storage with the ability to add a microSD card of up to 32GB.
The Moto G, which comes on black or white, also comes with optional brightly colored interchangeable backs, called Motorola Shells. A front cover, which functions much like Apple's Smart Cover, is also available.

As with the previous Moto G, Motorola is targeting developing markets with its entry-level smartphone. The handset, which starts at $179.99 sans contract, goes on sale in the U.S., India, France Brazil, Spain, Germany and the U.K beginning Friday and will be available in more than a dozen countries by the end of the year, Motorola says.
