PTCL Upgrades All DSL Users to At Least 4Mbps Package

PTCL Upgrades All DSL Users to At Least 4Mbps Package

Little late than earlier planned, PTCL has finally announced that it is capable of offering its entire DSL broadband subscribers’ base with at least 4Mbps broadband speeds.

Consequently, all 1Mbps and 2Mbps (both regular and student) broadband subscribers are automatically upgraded to 4Mbps speeds.

A note published on PTCL’s website reads:

We are now equipped to offer minimum 4Mbps Broadband connections to our subscribers thereby connecting Pakistan to the world at higher speeds.

Under this campaign, all existing 1Mbps and 2Mbps Regular/Student broadband users with feasible lines are also upgraded to 4Mbps free of cost till the promotion period.

As mentioned above, this free upgrade is for limited time and regular 4Mbps tariff will apply once the promotion period will end.

PTCL didn’t mention any expiry date of its promotion duration during which 4Mbps speeds are offered free of charge.

It won’t be out of place to mention that PTCL struggles with offering advertised speeds to certain users where lines are running on ageing copper media. PTCL, however, is working aggressively to replace end-to-end lines with fiber optic cables but that is going to take some time.

PTCL’s “4Mbps speed for all” slogan is inline with its target of achieving 2 million wired broadband customers in shortest possible time.

PTCL would want to grab maximum share before a severe competition is faced from cellular companies in coming days when wireless broadband will be on the offering through 3G and 4G services.
