Samsung Announces the Galaxy S3 Slim

Samsung may have replaced the Galaxy S3 by newer models, but it sure hasn’t forgotten its most popular phone of all time. The company has now announced a new version dubbed the Galaxy S3 Slim, which actually falls a little behind when compared to the iconic S3 phones.

The display is smaller at 4.5″, and packs the aging qHD resolution which is a bit of a disappointment. Under the hood, you get a quad-core 1.2 Ghz processor, 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage, which is expandable by up to 32 GB via microSD.

At the back you will find a 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, coupled with a VGA shooter at the front. With the Galaxy S3 Slim you do get 1080p Full HD video recording, which is probably the only feature which makes it an above average device. The battery capacity, at 2,100 mAh, is also not something to boast about.

Overall this seems a mid-range device, with a polycarbonate plastic finish (no faux leather) and body which is 9.7mm thick and 139g heavy. The phones runs on the old Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Here are the full specs of the phone:

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, customized with TouchWiz UI
4.5″ display with qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels
9.7mm thick,139g heavy
1.2 Ghz quad-core processor
1 GB RAM and 8 GB expandable storage
5 megapixel camera with flash and 1080p HD video recording
Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, 3G, microUSB
2,100 mAh battery
The phone should be available worldwide in the coming few months. At this point the price is unknown but it would be a surprise if it is more than that of the Galaxy S3, which is currently being sold at a relatively affordable price.
